Yoga Therapy in Ottawa
Yoga therapy empowers individuals to progress toward improved health and wellbeing through the application of the teachings and practices of Yoga, which is a scientific system of self-investigation, self-transformation, and self-realization. Yoga views the human system as a multidimensional structure that includes all aspects of body, breath, emotion, mind, intellect, and their mutual interaction. The practices of Yoga include, but are not limited to, postures (asana), breath (pranayama), contemplative practice, and a disciplined lifestyle that is appropriate to the unique constitution of each individual.
Yoga therapy applies these teachings and practices in a therapeutic context in order to increase self-awareness and engage one’s energy in the direction of desired goals. There has been a tremendous growth of scientific research on the many practices of Yoga over the past 30 years, which has contributed to an acceptance of its value as a therapeutic discipline. Yoga’s effects have been studied on anxiety, stress, depression, pain syndromes, and cardiovascular, autoimmune, and immune conditions. The goals of Yoga therapy include eliminating, reducing or managing the causes of suffering, improving function, helping to prevent the occurrence or re-occurrence of the underlying causes of illnesses, and moving toward improved health and wellbeing.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION?
I ask that new clients sign up for a minimum of two 90-minute appointments so that I can gather the information I need to design a personalized program for your needs and condition. After an in-depth assessment on your first visit, I will prepare a personalized dietary and lifestyle program that will address the issues you would like to work on in your life, as well as support the development of your overall wellbeing. During the second appointment, we will go over your healing program in detail. Optional follow up appointments will help me to support your regular practice, and to adapt it as needed as your practice unfolds and condition begins to shift. Programs are specifically designed to heal and balance your condition.
1st Appointment:
We will go over your profile, complete an intake form together and discuss your condition and reasons for seeking therapy. A postural assessment may be included if applicable to your condition. Prior to your next appointment, I will prepare your health and lifestyle recommendations tailored specifically to address your condition and support your health and healing objectives.
2nd Appointment:
We will go over your recommendations and healing program together in detail and practice together what has been recommended.
Follow-up Appointments:
It is important that the techniques and different aspects of your program are performed properly and consistently to ensure results. Any questions or clarifications can be addressed at this time, and I might make recommendations for further development of your program as you advance. Having support is medically proven to be one of the most important elements of Yoga Therapy. Scheduled follow up appointments may make all the difference to ensure you get the results you are aiming for. They will also enhance your ability to maintain a regular practice of your program. Appointments may be scheduled as required, or as often you wish.
